Climate Designer focusing on game and behavioural design to foster people to make more conscious and sustainable choices

I'm a designer, researcher and entrepreneur with a background in engineering, information technology and social innovation.

I am co-founder and director of PUSH, a non-profit design Lab based in Palermo and focused on urban innovation and sustainability.

I am also co-founder and CTO of MUV — Mobility Urban Values, a benefit corp startup that turns sustainable mobility into a sport.

In every one of my projects, I try to mix different disciplines such as game design, behavioural change theory, service design and agile development in order to develop solutions able to foster people to make more conscious and sustainable choices.

MUV — Mobility Urban Values turns sustainable urban mobility into a sport, encouraging more conscious and green habits and generating savings in climate-altering emissions. It is, therefore, a serious-game that provides an experience halfway between physical and digital.
One of the objectives of MUV is to produce a concrete and measurable impact in terms of CO2 saved. This is done for each user through an algorithm that creates a customized emissions baseline and the consequent measurement of emissions when using the app to track their travel.

My work consisted of designing the service and the game experience, as well as coordinating the development team. Recently MUV, which was a Horizon 2020 funded research and innovation project, has become a benefit corp startup of which I am one of the founders and where I hold the role of CTO.

trafficO2

trafficO2 is a serious game for sustainable mobility. The goal is to reduce traffic and pollution, offering to citizens a convenient agreement for everyone: prizes in exchange for sustainable moves.

The mobile app combines gaming and infomobility, creates interaction among users through challenges and provides useful information to improve users' performance.

The project, carried out in partnership with the University of Palermo, involved about 2.000 students who simply by playing improved their habits while reducing their carbon footprint.

Being one of the creators of the project, I was involved in the writing of the proposal which was subsequently funded with a three-year grant from the Italian Ministry of University and Research. I then worked on the design of the service and the implementation of the mobile app.
