Climate Designer working with organizations focused on environmental innovation

I believe in the power of using design to help bring awareness to organizations and causes focused on environmental innovation.

I aim to use my skills, experience, passion to explore, and love of learning to be a part of the solution.

It is imperative that we start recognizing the power of design as a tool for good and consider how we reinforce the notions of not only reduce, reuse, recycle, but also of repair.

Yampa Valley Recycles

Yampa Valley Sustainability Council spearheads conservation efforts in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. I was engaged to help provide creative direction for their new recycling app, Yampa Valley Recycles.

Additionally, I designed campaign marketing materials including: marketing campaign identity, logo, app graphics, poster series and printable A-Z recycling guide.

The five poster series features the most commonly 'hard-to-recycle' items in the Yampa Valley taking shape in the form of a question mark. The Recycling App tells residents where, when and how to recycle hundreds of item, minimizing the amount of waste going into local landfills.

The logo iterates on the classic recycling icon but gives users a sense of ownership by incorporating the beloved three peak Steamboat Springs ski area into the mark.

Give Plastic the Sack

The city of Steamboat Springs hired me to design a logo, tagline, marketing campaign collateral, and three bag designs for their effort to eliminate the use of one-time use plastic bags at large grocery stores in the city and replace them with reusable sacks.

It was important to highlight the various cultures and activities in the Yampa Valley when I designed the artwork for the bags — one of which was given to every household in Steamboat Springs. I wanted to capture the fun and vitality of the Yampa River that flows through town, the mountain activities in both summer and winter, and also the rich ranching heritage that continues to be an important element of Steamboat today. My aim was to allow each walk of life to take ownership of the bag initiative and play a vital role in reducing our collective climate impact.

Working together with the Teen Council and other sustainability organizations, the ‘Give Plastic the Sack’ ordinance took effect October 1, 2019.
